Engineering and Design Process

Initial Stages and Inspiration

Our inspiration stemmed from the high number of firefighters that lose their lives fighting high-rise fires in metropolitan cities. From the start, we saw that these numbers are concerning and that something should be done so that these fires are combated safely, and no harm comes to firefighters. To effectively invent a machine that fits within certain parameters, a lot of research was done, and the group eventually decided on creating an Autonomous Fire Retardant Drone that releases an Ammonium Phosphate coated ball.

Materials

Once the idea was incepted, the team had to look at the components that would be used to create the drone. The team looked at some more expensive parts for the drone with the anticipation of the use of outside funding, but in end, cheaper components were bought due to the guidelines.

Start of Engineering

Each team member chose a designated role for the duration of the project. The frame of the drone was provided by Mr. Chouikha and George Mason University. Additionally, 2 motors were also provided to us courtesy of George Mason.

Continuation

Once all the materials came in, more of the materials were being attached to the drone. Along the way, the transmitter malfunctioned and did not work. Eventually, another one was purchased and that allowed the drone to work.

Final Product

Once all the proper materials arrived, the drone was completely put together and has all the required components fit inside. This was the culmination of months of hard work and all-round team effort
